I’m an interior designer

Apr 10, 2023

AN INTERIOR designer shared his take on floor tiles to avoid among trendy styles.

The designer explained that he didn't think the styles would age well.

Phoenix Grey (@mrphoenixgrey) shared his advice in a video with over 700,000 TikTok followers.

"Super trendy tiles I would avoid as an interior designer," he said.

Starting off, the designer picked large format hexagonal tiles to steer clear of.

"They can be cute don't get me wrong, but honestly they really do nothing for you," he said.

"They look like those interchangeable carpet tiles you have in any corporate design space," he explained.

Next up was the mix of tile and wood format — especially ones without a proper "dividing point."

"The only kind of space I feel this would work well is if you have a mantle and you have the fireplace around it."

Last but not least were brass and marble inlay tiles.

"Let me tell you the chokehold these aesthetic designs have on interior designers... myself included," he joked.

"They are also unbelievably expensive when it comes to square footage because they are usually laser-jetted."

"It all depends on the context and installation of these, but they just don't do it for me," he said.

Phoenix recommended taking care by using trends in moderation and explained that even small decisions like floor tiling can make a big difference.

People took to the comments to share their thoughts.

"I love the marble with the brass so pretty but yes not an overwhelming amount," said one commenter.

"I am so anti-hex. I just can't spec them. Ever," agreed another.
